B.PAC has been working on sustainability and safety issues and is now pioneering the concept of a Green and Safe School model with a holistic vision to create a clean, hygienic, safe environment in government schools that is conducive for learning. A ‘Green and Safe School’ follows a child-centric approach, where schools become a space for positive carbon footprint, free of violence, harassment and abuse.
B.PAC in association with Shell MRPL Aviation Fuels & Services Ltd aims to apply the principles of the Green and Safe School to improve the current state of the government primary school in Palace Guttahalli, where interventions by way of infrastructure upgradation, training and awareness on safety and sustainability will be delivered.
The project was inaugurated on January 23rd by Dr Ashwath Narayan MLA Malleshwaram, Revathy Ashok CEO B.PAC, Ananda Gundu Rao member B.PAC, and Hemalatha, Corporator of Gayathrinagar ward. The school campus was packed with the enthusiasm of students, parents and teachers eagerly looking forward to the initiative .
The government primary school in Palace Guttahalli has a strength of around 100 students who come from lower-income communities from surrounding areas.
Revathy Ashok, CEO and Managing Trustee B.PAC, said, “The school had expressed the need for basic infrastructure such as toilets, a properly-equipped library room, and resources for co-curricular activities. We looked at a comprehensive checklist of items that went beyond the basic requirements and included rainwater harvesting, solar lighting, better energy management, waste management as concepts to create a sustainable environment.” She added, “Safety is another important issue in schools. We will also deploy necessary safety infrastructure and conduct safety awareness training for students, teachers and parents.”
