CHRISTMAS CAKES AND WINE

Prepare for the ringing bells

With Christmas round the corner, below are some options for home made goodies.

By Theresa Varghese

With Christmas round the corner, if thoughts of plum cake, fudge and wine have been invading your mind and you’re wondering how to get your hands on home made treats, here are a couple of names for festive goodies.

Lorraine Correa, who has been in the business for a while and makes a variety of sweets for the season, changes her product list annually to suit customer demands. However, the two things you will always find at Lorraine’s is Christmas Cake priced at Rs 350 per kg and Kulkuls at Rs 250 per kg. This Christmas there’s also Shell Cream – a milk toffee, Neuris – a coconut filled deep fried pastry, Chocolate Fudge, Marzipan and Coconut Sweet. But sadly, orders closed on November 15. On the bright side, there’s always next year. So take note.

Michelle Gafoor’s specialities are Date and Walnut Roll and Christmas Cake. The cake is a family recipe that has been handed down through generations so Michelle and her mother continue to be the only two involved in the preparations. Baked in two normal home ovens, orders are restricted to 300 kg annually. Of this, 100 kg caters to regular clientele. The cake is priced at Rs 400 per kg and the last date for orders is December 15. The Gafoor family’s other speciality, available round the year, is Guava Cheese.
