CARRY YOUR TOWEL THE WHOLE DAY WITH YOU!

Bengaluru celebrates towel day

Towel Day is celebrated every year on 25th May as a tribute by fans of the late author Douglas Adams.

By Shweta Thakur

On this day, fans carry a towel with them to demonstrate their appreciation for the books and the author, as referred to in Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The commemoration was first held in 2001, two weeks after Adams' death on 11 May 2001.

As keepers of the faith, and as believers that the solution to all the universe’s problems lies in the number 42, two young startups - Graffiti Collaborative(www.thegraffiti.co), an innovative brand consulting firm, and PoshVine (www.poshvine.com), an online service which provides Bangaloreans insider access to unique dining and culinary experiences - have come together to create a unique celebration of Towel Day in Namma Bengaluru. On Twitter, #dontpanic is already trending in India, and the interest about joining this movement is on the rise on all popular social networking sites.

How do you get involved?

  • Carry your towel the whole day with you, wherever you go, this Friday May 25. In the evening, from 7.30 PM onwards, walk into a handful of resto-bars and boutique restaurants including The Biere Club, Loveshack, Huckleberry, Herbs n Spice, and many more, and enjoy yourselves with a free Inter Galactic Gargle Blaster. Yes, that’s a killer cocktail.
  • At 1.30 pm, assemble at the Brigade Road McDonalds and watch the festivities for yourself (in your towel)
  • Register for the event at Towel Day Bangalore Facebook page.
  • Tweet funny anecdotes with the hashtags #dontpanic and #42, upload your pictures with your favorite towel.

We should create more awareness for this in different languages. People visiting from rural areas would be very interested! :D Maybe I should go down to Krishi Bhavan and ask the hangers-on there to visit these bars and collect their free cocktails.
