A study in green

Meet Harini Nagendra, a young city-based ecologist who can answer your questions on Bangalore’s disappearing tree cover and its implications.

By Meera Iyer

Ecologist and scientist Harini Nagendra has been researching Bangalore’s trees since 2006, and her study on street trees is almost ready. She has collected extensive data on the number and species of trees that are planted on city roads of various dimensions, and the changing urban landscape over a certain period of time. She hopes the data will be used by city planners and green activists for various issues including that of tree felling for road widening.

Well done Harini ! Great to see some one do some real research on this subject. Its evidence that we need not self important tree huggers and misguided environmentalists.
