Jawahar Union won the B Division League Bangalore Blues Cup 2011-12, on March 4th. They beat Bangalore Kickers to win the cup.
Both teams have been promoted to A Division for the year 2012-13. Five teams - BWSSB, Young Muslims, Goans, Sunrising and BHEL (EPD) have been relegated to C Division. Thirteen teams had participated in the championship held in Bangalore Football Stadium.
Army Green won the 15th Field Marshall K M Cariappa Memorial Hockey Tournament on February 19th. The team beat MEG'A' by 4-0. For Army Green, the goals were scored by Roam, Hemlet, Gabriel and Binoy at the 20th, 31st, 35th and 57th minutes respectively.

On February 15th, Day 15 of the B Division Bangalore Blues Cup 2011-12, Bangalore Kickers and Royals emerged winners. The tournament is being held at the Bangalore Football Stadium and is organised by Bangalore District Football Association.
In the first match, Bangalore Kickers beat BWSSB by 3-2. For Kickers, Diyananda scored two goals at the 46th and 59th minute, and Suri scored one goal at the 15th minute. For BWSSB, both goals were scored by Joseph, in the 31st and 33rd minutes.
In the second match, Royals beat Minerva by 4-0. For Royals, Saravana, Murthy, Venu and Roymond scored at the 7th, 13th, 42nd and 44th minutes respectively.
On February 14th (Day 14), Jupiter had beat Goans by 2-0. For Jupiter, Sanathi had scored in the 18th and 26th minute. The second match had ended in a tie between Nationals and Oriental.

Karnataka State Football Association (KSFA) will conduct an Entrance/Promotional Football Referees Examination in the last week of April. Candidates in the age group of 18 to 28 years can apply. Candidate should have passed SSLC examination and have knowledge of football. Classes for the exam will be conducted during March. The exam will be held at Bangalore Football Stadium.

On Day 7 of the B Division football league Bangalore Blues Cup 2011-12, Young Muslims beat Goans by 6-3. In the match on January 31st, Vishwajeeth, Abilash and Akilesh scored two goals each for Young Muslims.
Vishwajeeth scored at the 6th and 12 minute; Abilash at the 33rd and 42nd minute, and Akilesh at the 35th and 50th minute. For Goans, Dinesh scored at the 49th minute; John Gilbert scored two goals at the 46th and 61st minute.
In the second match, Royals beat Bangalore Kickers by 2-1. Akash and Shin scored for Royals at 31st and 34th minute respectively. Dayananda scored for Bangalore Kickers in the 49th minute.
Two matches are scheduled on February 2nd - Minerva Vs Jupiter (2 pm) and Jawahar Union Vs Govt Press (3.30 pm). All matches are at the Bangalore Football Stadium, Ashoknagar.

Karnataka lost bronze medal to Uttar Pradesh in the 38th Junior National Volleyball Championship for Boys, which ended on January 29th in West Bengal. Karnataka ranked fourth in the Boys Championship.
UP beat Karnataka by 79-59 (28-26, 25-09, 26-24). Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh won gold and silver medals respectively.
In the Girls Championship, Karnataka ranked fifth. The state team was defeated in the quarter final itself by Uttar Pradesh by 96-81 (21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16). West Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu won gold, silver and bronze respectively.

BEML, Bangalore and HAL won in the D S Murthy and V Karunakaran Memoral Hockey Tournament matches held on January 17th.
In the first match BEML, Bangalore beat RBI by 4-0. For BEML, Surendra scored two goals at the 29th and 39th minute. Ramesh scored a goal at the 49th minute and Subbaiah scored one at the 58th minute.
In the second match, HAL beat ABHA by 8-1. For HAL, Mohammed Nayeemuddin scored four goals at the 21st, 27th, 45th and 56th minutes. Nagasreeni scored a goal at 31st minute, Teja Babu at 34th minute, Ponnanna at 39th minute and Sujith Kumar at 54th minute. ABHA's lone goal was scored by Shahid at 16th minute.
On January 18th, the matches are BEML Bangalore Vs SAI, and RBI Vs Ideal SC, KGF.

Results of D S Murthy and V Karunakaran Memorial Hockey Tournament
January 10: In the first match, PCTC beat Postal by 6-2 via tie-breaker. During regulation time, teams were tied at 2-2. For PCTC, J Purthy and Kerketta scored at 14th and 56th minute respectively. For Postal, Chalke and Naveen Shekar scored at 26th and 28th minute respectively.
January 9: BEML, Bangalore beat RWF in the first match by tie-breaker. The teams were tied at the score of 1-1. For BEML, Aravind had scored a goal in the 42nd minute. For RWF, Jayaraj had scored in the 36th minute.

Twenty five entries are permitted. The matches will be in teams, with five players in each team and four to play. Best of three games will be selected.
KSCA will simultanously hold the Karun Muthaiah Memorial Dependents Handicap Inter Club Snooker Tournament at the same venue, under the auspices of KSBA. Twenty entries are permitted.

The Annual Generel Meeting (AGM) of Karnataka State Football Association (KSFA) was held on 24th July. A R Khaleel was re-elected as President of the Association for another term of two years.

The Karnataka State Hockey Association, 'B' Division Hockey League Championship began on the 22nd of July and will go on till the 21st of August. The championship follows the recently concluded 'C' Division League which saw Bellary Hockey Club beat Ideal Sports Club from KGF, 1-0 at the finals which was held on 15th July earlier this month.
Twenty six teams from across the State will battle it out on the turf in 62 matches for the 'B' Division Championship. Some of the teams include Kodava Samaj, Coorg Hockey Association, S B M Jain College, HMT, State Bank of India, A S C Boys and Sai 'C'.
In the four days since the Championship started, four matches have been played and the following are the results.
22nd July - Government Sports School, Kudige beat AGORC by 5-2 22

Karnataka is fielding the second largest contingent after hosts Tamil Nadu, of girls and boys totaling 23 in the Billiards & Snooker Nationals at Chennai. The team, name "Jubiliant Juniors" will represent the State in the tournamen which started on July 18th and will go on till Augus 9th.
The Juniors including defending champions Mundir Sherazi (Billiards), Varsha Sanjeev (Billiards) who have trained hard at Karnataka State Billiards Association (KSBA) for the last one year are being fine tuned by Dronocharya Arvind Savur and Coach M K Sharma.
Along with the Juniors, Chitra Magimairaj and Uma Devi in women's section with B Bhaskar, I H Manudev and D Raj Kumar in men's section will represent the State in Billiards I H Manudev, M S Arun and B Balaji Reddy will represent the State in the Nationals tournament.

The inaugural match of the Indian Volley League (IVL) between Karnataka Bulls and Yanam Tigers took place at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium on Sunday, May 29th at 6.30 pm.
The publicity that the IVL took so much trouble for seemed to be of little use. The stadium, with a capacity of 4000, had about a 1000 odd people holding yellow balloons and waiting for the match to begin. In the meanwhile, dancers and musicians entertained the crowd with Bollywood numbers.
After salutations to Karnataka Maate with 'Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujate', sung by a group of young women in yellow and red sarees, K Nandakumar (Secretary of IVL) welcomed everyone enthusiastically, with all six teams lined up on the court. Home Minister R Ashoka lit the lamp at about 5.45 (the inauguration was originally supposed to take place at 5 pm with the chief guest being Chief Minister B S Yedayurappa).…

This is the first of an article series that will strive to cover anything and everything to do with sports in Bangalore.
To begin with, football in Bangalore is an art form, and the players, artists. I've heard people say, "It takes a football match in Bangalore to know Classical Indian Football", and it was on Saturday the 8th of November, that I fully understood the statement.
I was returning from the Karnataka State Football Association building after a failed bid to meet the Secretary, and was walking back towards Airport Road. The detour freak that I am, I took another road thinking that would get me further into Airport Road. But then, I found myself in a while walking along Palmgrove Road, Austin Town. It was then that I saw a familiar shape fly high into the air at quite a distance. That must be.. football!
And I reached the soccer…
