Dr Leah Lowthorp will talk on ‘The Saga of a Priceless Heritage: The Cultural and Social context of Kutiyattam’ .
Leah is an anthropologist. She is currently a Program Manager & Mellon/ACLS Public Fellow, Center for Genetics and Society and Associate of Folklore & Mythology at Harvard University. Leah took her PhD in from University of Pennsylvania on the topic ‘Continuity, Change, and the “Safeguarding” of Tradition: Kutiyattam and UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in India’. Leah spent many years in Kerala for her Doctoral studies on Kutiyattom. Apart from her scholarship, Leah is an accomplished musician and has also performed as a Kutiyattam artiste.
